FAQ – Tandem Skydiving
How old do I have to be to skydive?
Skydivers must be a minimum of 16 years of age, however between the ages of 16 and 18, jumpers must provide a letter confirming parental or guardian consent and one parent or guardian must counter sign the liability waver.
Is there a weight limitation?
Yes, there is an approximate weight limit of 220lbs/100kg, however, your weight should be in proportion to your height and build. Most people who have an active lifestyle can go skydiving so if you are above this weight you still maybe ok. Call us to make sure 085 900 3412
Are there any medical considerations?
Yes, if you are taking prescription drugs or have suffered a recent injury or illness, you are required to bring a doctor’s certification stating that no adverse effects will result from vigorous activity, such as skydiving. If you have any doubts whatsoever about your fitness please contact us and we will refer you to a doctor who can advise you appropriately!
What if I have been Scuba diving!
If you are an experienced scuba diver, you understand that it is unsafe to skydive following a scuba dive due to your susceptibility to getting the “bends” and will not be allowed to skydive for a minimum of 24 hours following the scuba dive to allow for “off gassing”.
What should I wear?
We will provide you with a jumpsuit for your skydive. However, it is important that you have a full range of motion when skydiving; therefore, we suggest wearing non-restrictive clothing (T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, jeans, sweat pants or other athletic wear). We will not allow you to jump if you are wearing open-toed shoes -no bare feet or sandals are allowed. Trainers are preferable, but please, no shoes with hooks for lacing.
What if the weather forecast is bad?
Skydiving has always been a weather-dependent sport. If you have been scheduled, you must come to the drop zone regardless of weather conditions. If we feel it is necessary to cancel, we will call you. If inclement weather occurs after you arrive, all jumping will either be postponed until later in the day, or cancelled. Jumping will recommence when weather conditions do not compromise safety.
Can I jump with my friends?
Yes! Sharing the experience with your friends and family is fantastic. We can accommodate groups of all sizes; however, we are limited to the number that can jump on one aircraft load. We will do our best to arrange for you and your friend to ride to altitude, but we can make no guarantees.
What about spectators?
Your friends and/or Family are most welcome to attend and watch your skydive but they must remain in the “Spectator” area. Certain areas of the drop zone are “Off Limits” to spectators both for safety reasons and to enable a proper teaching environment. Please make sure you brief your spectators that it is “Your Day” and they cannot intervene in the day’s events.
Can I get a video/photographs of my skydive?
Yes and quite simply this can be booked on the day. We are well aware that you may want a record of your big day and we can make a video and/or still photos of your skydive. Prices for this service are posted in the manifest office and you will receive a professionally edited video set to music of your choice.
How fast will I be falling?
Freefall averages 120 m/ph or 195k/ph Terminal velocity!
What kind of parachute will we use?
The parachutes used are specifically designed, large “ram-airs”. A ram-air is a high technology “square” parachute, as opposed to the old style round parachutes.
What happens if the parachute doesn’t open?
In the very unlikely event that the main parachute doesn’t open properly, there is a secondary (reserve) parachute which is inspected and packed by a licensed parachute rigger.
All of our reserve parachutes are equipped with the most reliable and modern AAD’s (Automatic Activation Device) available. This is a BACK-UP system only, which operates your reserve parachute for you.
What will the landing be like?
Normally, there is less impact than jumping off a chair.
Do people ever get injured?
Yes. Like all “Adventure Sports”, skydiving carries an inherent risk of injury. Most skydiving injuries are minor landing injuries. Statistically Tandem skydiving has a risk factor of 0.5% , if you consider that horse riding, cricket and American football rank above skydiving as “risky” sports, it puts things into perspective.
What about insurance?
Thai Sky Adventures carries “Third Party Only” insurance (i.e.: If we land on someone’s car, the damage is covered). We do not cover you for “Personal Accident Insurance”. However, nowadays most “Travel Policy’s” do not exclude adventure activities (Skydiving, Scuba Diving, Mountain Climbing, etc). If you have insurance, please check with your broker/policy prior to jumping.
Somewhere to eat?
Yes, food, beer and soft drinks/ water etc can be bought at the drop zone.
